Meet the Musician

Sommer

Sommer has been playing violin for 14 and wishes to pursue a career as a performing artist. She is a sophomore studying violin performance at Florida State University under the tutelage of Corinne Stillwell and is acting Concertmaster of the University Philharmonia Orchestra. Sommer has performed in many Master Classes with renowned artists such as Timothy Lees, Ray Chen, Frederik Øland, Itamar Zorman, and Jonathan Swartz.

She is an active chamber musician and traveled to Washington, DC with her FSU string quartet last fall to premiere new original compositions at the Smithsonian Institute. Sommer is a native of Sarasota, Florida where she studied privately with Mr. Sean O’Neil and played eleven seasons with the Sarasota Youth Orchestras; the final two as Concertmaster of the Philharmonic.

Sommer is a two-time Florida All-State musician and has received numerous MPA superior ratings. This summer, Sommer experienced her first year at Brevard Music Center where she learned from talented artists and faculty. She enjoyed playing a live orchestral performance of the musical “West Side Story” as Assistant Principal to a large audience at the Brevard Music Festival, as well as playing in the pit orchestra for Bernstein’s “Candide”. Sommer plans to gain a Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance by 2021 and will go on to earn her Masters in Music degree.
