About

The Treasury on the Plaza is a historic-yet-modern wedding venue nestled in the heart of downtown St. Augustine, Florida. Housed in a landmark building that opened in 1927 as the city’s central bank, The Treasury seamlessly blends Old-World elegance with contemporary sophistication. The venue underwent an award-winning renovation in 2014 to transform the former bank into a luxury event space, all while preserving its architectural grandeur and historic charm.

When you step into the Treasury, you are greeted by soaring ceilings and intricate 1920s-era architectural details that exude classic art deco glamour. The centerpiece is the Grand Ballroom – a magnificent hall ringed by towering Romanesque columns and a soft cream palette – which provides a breathtaking backdrop for wedding ceremonies and receptions. By day, the ballroom evokes the opulence of a bygone era. By night, its state-of-the-art lighting system can transform the space into a nightclub-style atmosphere while you dance to banger after banger from one of our DJs. The venue's flexible lighting and sound setup means your ceremony can be timeless and elegant, and your after-party vibrant and customized to your style.

A particularly unique feature of the Treasury on the Plaza is its Vault Bar, set inside the building’s original 1927 bank vault. Behind the massive steel door lies a marble-and-granite cocktail lounge with a cool speakeasy vibe. During cocktail hour, guests love ducking into this hidden gem – it’s like stepping back into the Roaring Twenties with modern comforts.

Couples also enjoy exceptional conveniences on site, including private dressing suites. The Plaza Lounge (bridal suite) and the Banker’s Lounge (groom’s suite) are designed for relaxation and fun before the ceremony. The bridal suite offers vanities for hair and makeup, floor-length mirrors, and even a secret door leading directly to the ceremony foyer for a grand entrance. The groom’s lounge upstairs boasts games and a TV to keep the wedding party entertained, plus a private bath and kitchenette for pre-ceremony snacks or drinks. Having these well-appointed suites on site allows the entire wedding day – from prep to last dance – to unfold under one roof, which is both convenient and memorable for the couple and their closest friends and family.

The Treasury offers couples historic ambiance and modern amenities in one of St. Augustine’s most unique venues. From the elegant ballroom to the one-of-a-kind Vault Bar, every corner of The Treasury provides a picture-perfect setting and an unforgettable experience for you and your guests. It’s no surprise The Treasury is consistently rated one of the top wedding venues in the region -- and one of our favorite venues to DJ weddings -- given its blend of historic charm, downtown location, and exceptional wedding team dedicated to rolling out the red carpet for every couple.

Insider Tips

  • Book Early and Consider Off-Peak Deals: The Treasury on the Plaza is a sought-after venue, so reserve your date early. If you’re flexible, look into off-peak or weekday weddings for cost savings. The venue often runs seasonal promotions – for example, summer bookings may come with perks like a waived ceremony fee (a $2,500 savings) or package discounts. Choosing a Monday-Thursday or a summer date (June–August) could not only save you money but also open up more availability.

  • Take Advantage of the Vault Bar: The Vault Bar isn’t just a showpiece – incorporate it into your wedding experience! Plan to serve a signature cocktail from inside the old bank vault and encourage your photographer to capture a few romantic “inside the vault” shots. Guests will love the novelty of grabbing a drink in a 1920s-era bank vault turned speakeasy, and it makes for a great conversation piece. (Insider tip: dim lighting in the Vault Bar gives photos a moody, glamorous feel – perfect for a dramatic newlywed portrait or two.)

  • Book a Photo Booth: There is a perfect nook for our photo booths in between the Grand Ballroom and the area where guests are mingling during cocktail hour. Check out some perfect photo booth options for the Treasury on the Plaza and add another layer of fun to the night!

  • Use the Foyer Balcony for a First Look: If you’re considering a "first look” (the reveal of seeing each other before the ceremony), the Treasury has a magical spot for it. The Grand Foyer’s balcony, with its large bay window overlooking the plaza, is an ideal private perch for your first look and photography. It’s available as soon as vendors can access the venue, so schedule your timeline to include this location. Many couples cherish the balcony first-look photos, which capture the historic charm of downtown St. Augustine in the background.

  • Grand Entrance via the Secret Door: Make your ceremony entrance extra memorable by using the bridal suite’s secret exit. The Plaza Lounge (bridal suite) has a hidden door that leads directly into the Grand Foyer. This means you can slip straight into the ceremony area without anyone seeing you beforehand. It’s perfect for keeping your entrance moment truly surprising.

  • Plan a Smooth Room Flip: If you’re holding both ceremony and reception in the Grand Ballroom (a popular choice at the Treasury), work with the venue team to coordinate a seamless room flip. Typically, ceremonies are held in the ballroom, then guests move to the cocktail hour in the Exchange Gallery or Foyer while staff convert the ballroom for dinner and dancing. The Treasury’s staff is very experienced with this transition. To help, plan on a cocktail hour of about an hour or more – plenty of time for guests to enjoy drinks and hors d’oeuvres in the gorgeous ancillary spaces. By the time cocktail hour is over, the ballroom will be transformed with reception décor and lively lighting ready for your grand re-entrance. Book an additional sound system with us to set the perfect cocktail hour vibe in the meantime!
